We are so lucky to live in a country that offers a vast beautiful backyard. Adventures in Ontario are limitless. Families can do everything from canoeing, kayaking to river rafting or zip lining to exploring amazing caves. And sometimes, the best adventures are waiting in your own backyard.
My teenagers and I had the fantastic opportunity to venture out to Scenic Caves in Collingwood. Established in 1932, Scenic Caves Nature Adventures is a natural attraction offering year-round seasonal outdoor adventures for all ages. A tourism award-winning travel experience, it is both a Canadian Signature Experience and an Ontario Signature Experience, designated by the Canadian Tourism Commission. Nature, history, scenery and memorable adventures await the whole family at the most varied natural playground in Ontario.
momstown Special Offer to Scenic Caves
We live in Oakville, so we decided to make it a day trip. As you know, teens can be a bit picky when it comes to their schedule – especially their summer schedule. I decided to surprise them (they have never been to scenic caves) and tell them we were heading up north for the day.
When we arrived, we were immediately stunned by how beautiful it was. The day was perfect for exploring.
There are so many activities to choose from when you arrive. Everything from mini golf, gemstone mining for the wee ones, a trout pond to feed the fish, train rides, a children’s playground, zip lining, a walk on the suspension bridge and of course the amazing nature trails and caves.
We did the Scenic Caves Nature Adventure – A a self-guided trail of caves, caverns and crevasses carved millions of years ago by glacial ice, and savour the breathtaking lookouts from the highest point of the Niagara Escarpment, set in one of Canada’s sixteen UNESCO biosphere reserves. Learn about the First Nations’ Huron Petun tribe as you discover the mysterious places and hidden natural fortress which sheltered the native people from their enemies. Venture over Southern Ontario’s longest 420ft. Suspension Footbridge which offers spectacular views of Georgian Bay and surrounding countryside. Hitch a ride on Rocky the train, and enjoy the additional features such as: children’s adventure playground, pan for gemstones, mini golf, trout pond, picnic areas, snack bar and gift shop.
My family and I enjoyed every single minute of our Scenic Caves adventure. Going through each cave and feeling the temperature dip was especially thrilling for me because it SURE was hot out. The nature trail was my daughter’s favourite because she got to see 3 baby squirrels. The suspension bridge was a great place for all 3 of them to take pictures for their Instagram – and they did just that. I just enjoyed the wonderful view.
The day didn’t have a dull moment. Try saying that when you have teens. 🙂 But I will admit that the best part of the entire adventure was the Thunderbird Twin Zip Line. I have a fear of heights, so I wasn’t looking forward to facing my fears on this day – but I did. I couldn’t let my teenagers see me sweat or chicken out. I was happy I did. The. Best. Experience. EVER!
By the end of the day, we grabbed some ice-cream, sat around the Trout pond and just talked about our favourite moments. Mine, of course, was sitting and talking with them while eating ice-cream. What more could I ask for? A group picture? Sure. But, you can’t win all the time (Lol).
