The Lucas Holtom Carnival Day offers families of Brampton a day to celebrate the preciousness of life. On July 14, 2014, the carnvial provides tons of fun for their kids and includes Pony Rides, a Climbing Wall, a Dunk Tank, Bouncy Castle, Mini Golf and so much more – all for FREE except for a nominal cost for the food.
This fun-filled day was meant to reach out to the community to honour and remember Lucas Holtom, son of Jamie and Katrina Holtom, who died at the age of two in a tornado at a camp ground in Pine Lake, Alberta in July 2000. After the first event, the Carnival mandate was expanded to try and bring hope and healing to other families who have experienced the death of a child.
The Carnival is held in the church parking lot and Leander Park behind the church. Attendance has grown and over 4,000 people share in the joy of the free entertainment and games, a sports area, and inflatable events. A video slide show in the church will celebrate the life of Lucas, and this year's child Johnathan Campbell.
