No time to go to the gym? Here are some easy, fast and effective workouts moms can do at home with little equipment and with the kids!
Fast and Effective Home Workouts, aka The 12 Minute Workout!
As part of the momstown Brampton Fitness Challenge, we had an Active Mama event led by one of our very own who showed us how to workout at home with baby by our side. Here are the tips everyone can follow:
Always start with a warm-up. Start with marching on the spot increasing the pace until you are running on the spot. Increase your speed after each 60 second interval for a total of 5 minutes.
Do some arm circles, hamstring curls and light squats to warm-up your body. If your baby is awake, you can do warm-up activities while holding your baby, they love it.
Always finish with a cool down using stretches such as hip-flexor stretch, hamstrings, quads, triceps etc. You NEVER want to omit your cool-down because cool-down with stretch PREVENT injury and as moms we do not have time to be injured, right ladies!
The workout length is up to you. This is determined by how much time you have, how you are feeling, etc. The one listed below is based on a 12-minute workout.
Option 1 – 2 rounds of 6 different exercises. You will do each exercise for 50 sec on and then rest for 10 sec for a total of 6 minutes. Repeat the sequence for a total of 12 minutes
Option 2 – 4 rounds of 6 exercises. You will do each exercise for 20 sec on and then rest for 10 sec for a total of 3 minutes. Repeat 3 more times for a total of 12 minutes.

Floor Sprints (from high plank position)
Knee tucks from low or high plank
Make sure during each working interval that you are working to your maximum effort but always keep good form to prevent injury. Whether you choose high or low impact options you are still working hard as long as you are working to your MAXIMUM effort.
